'63 F100 to 302 ... HELP!
Hey Guys and Gals...this is my FIRST truck (American style), and I'm having some problems.
First, I have a 1963 Ford F100 and it came with a 1978 Jeep 258 CID engine and automatic transmission. Just after I bought it, the torque converter started to go. I figured that was a sign to change to a Ford powerplant.
Now, I have put a 1974 302 (while having a 289 rebuilt) in the truck. The engine and transmission were disassembled, so I've had the "pleasure" of putting this thing back together. However, I bought quality parts with the idea of putting them on the 289 when it is done being rebuilt. BUT, I have a few questions.
First, I have a Holley 4150, 600 CFM carburetor and Weiand Action+ intake. How do I link the accelerator linkage to the carb? Any special fittings, etc.?
Second, where can I find transmission linkage without having to buy a Hurst floorboard shifter? The shift arm is still intact...just no linkage.
Lastly, I have NO exhaust manifolds, so I want to either replace them or get a header/combo...whatever will work and sound best for a daily driver...
Thanks for the help....Ciao for now,
Sincerely,
Paul a.k.a. rotatinghead

OK the carb linkage should be a simple rod of apropriate length, just about any of a ford pickup can be made to work. You may have to bend it to fit. Make sure you get enough travel to go from idle to wide open. The shifter from an early Mustang will work and look nice. Headers are easy to work with and will compliment the other parts installed. Good luck, Rich
