Unless you're doing the work yourself or have a very good mechanic I would not deviate from the i6.
Like Mudsport eluded to, cheaper isn't always better, especially when it comes to an engine rebuild.
Since you've expressed concern about having a good mechanic, what were the compression results (each cylinder, in psi)? Did they also perform a leak down test? If so, what was the result?
