Buy the engine you want, you can't go wrong if you are going to tow with the 5.0 or the 3.5 ECO. The Eco will use a little more fuel when towing the same load but the 5.0 needs lower gears to really be effencient which will effect your unloaded non towing mileage which most of us do, most of the time. I have had both my last 2 trucks where 3.5 ECOs, my current 2018 is a 5.0. the only reason I changed is I ordered this truck and didn't need the power of the 3.5 ECO or the added cost. I did get the 3.55 gears in it. It doesn't do as well on the highway but it is great in town. 16 City and 18-19 on the highway (@ 75-80mph,whatever the posted speed is), but I am very happy with it.
My 2.7 does everything I want from it hands down tows a 6500 TT with a 600lb tongue weight the key is to use a WTD and it will
save you a lot of towing problems, I got the Blue Ox with the Torsion Bars easy to adjust I have 3.55 gears and get 14 to 16 MPG
Had to put Fox 2.0 in the rear for wheel hop. Much better now
how well does does it tow your car and boat. My dealer told me it would be in the red zone rpms towing something. 7000 lb rating I think
I am very happy with the towing capabilities of the 2.7. The only time it is ever high in the RPMs is during compression braking, the rest of the time the engine tends to work in the lower RPMs.
Thanks for all the replies. I need to find out if the new 3.3 comes in 4x4 and what cab sizes. I’d like to have a crew cab with that motor
Just go on to FORD's Build and Price.
YES, a 4X4 is available in a Crew Cab with that motor. Some options may negate the motor, but to start trying to pick which options make the 3.3L go away, would be best fittered out on Build and Price.
