Feedback on 2010-2013 models

Hey,

I'm looking for some feedback on 2010's thru probably 2013/14's. Basically those years fall within my budget. Most have mileage from 50k and up, so I'm curious if there is anything to watch out for aside from obvious normal wear and tear. Gonna be doing a few hundred miles a day so dependability is a must. Just looking for any inherent issues and such before I buy.

One im really interested in particular is a 2012 lariat with a little over 80k. It's a 6.2 4x4. Thoughts?

Thanks.

They have all been pretty good and the 6.2 has proven itself a good motor.

Most complain about the softer suspension so if you are going to be hauling much of a load you may want some air bags.

Are you going to tow with this or just unloaded is another question. If you are going to tow a lot then 4.30 gears with a 6.2 is the best combo.

Thanks. No towing, but occasional heavy loads, maybe 500-800 pounds? That's on top of the standard tools and supplies that would be kept in the bed and bed tool box.

should not need to do anything with the suspension then.

And really if no real towing then 3.73 gearing is fine as well.

The 6.2 is in the 2011 and up model years. The 2010 would still be the 5.4 and that motor is a good one too.

Ok. Had an '08 and an '11 at my last job and they were pretty dependable. The '08 had a few issues here and there but nothing major.
which years had the exploding spark plugs or something like that?

much earlier models had that. Someone else may know for sure but around 2005 they changed the design.

Ok cool. So 2011 and up I'm good, which was basically my cut off anyway.

I have a 2013 lariat 6.2 4x4. Absolutely love it. Ride isn't soft at all, it's actually a bit stiff but I replaced shocks on all 4 corners with fox 2.0 shocks and it's made a world of difference. The 2011s had a suspension problem leading to the famed "death wobble" so might want to avoid 2011 trucks if you can. Post 2011s had no death wobble problems.

I've hauled up to about 4500 lbs total (trailer and cargo) and the truck shrugged it off like it was nothing. Tow haul mode worked perfectly. I wouldn't hesitate to go with a 6.2. It's a magnificent truck.
