I was approaching that as he is in MI. 200 would have been unusual for me running light during the summer..

Did you ever take the fan and try to wiggle it top to bottom or side to side? Similar to if you were checking for a worn wheel hub
That can be a good indicator of a clutch that is bad/going bad.

Those temp ranges don't sound out of line to me either. I have read plenty of threads that they won't fully lock until 210 or even a bit higher.

I guess whenever I get this motor back together I’m going to have to try breaking the 50 mph speed barrier.

Maybe its my running on the highway in this flatland, but when mine gets into the mid 190s I take notice. I don’t ever remember getting that hot. The LS, all the time in summer, 205-210F.

In the summer I'm running 202 204 on coolant and 205 to 210 on oil depending on driving conditions.

I’m running about the same temps this TX summer. I figure I’m getting mishimoto performance on a FMC thermostat. But I’m looking to swap a new FMC thermostat soon as I don’t know how old mine is. I’ve put 98K on it. But the truck is at 190K.

Check your thermostat if you haven't already, if it's not a Motorcraft thermostat chances are it's stuck and causing the overheat condition. I've seen something like this twice already snd the thermostat was the problem.

Mines a Mishimoto. If I end up needing another I'll probably go INTL.

I think that’s a good idea. I’ve already got my replacement ford thermostat so going that route this time. If I have to do it again, going INTL as well.

Hello all,
I have a new to me 2004 Ford Excursion with the 6.0 and 4WD. It has 158000 miles on it and from what I can see in the maintenance history from the previous owner, not much has been done to it besides oil changes twice a year since new and the occasional fuel or other service type maintenance. When I bought it I was extremely nervous about the 6.0 but needed the excursion due to family size and towing capacity. I decided to use the OBD Fusion app to better monitor things and the first thing I noticed was the voltage. I will post about that in the alternator threads but it is fixed now. Since having the Monitor and better gauges to actually see temps I have noticed that my oil temps generally run about 210 and ECT's about 200 or a little more. Most of my driving is 50+ MPH rural settings with about 25% being on the highway. Also, ambient temps have been about 110 to 118 degrees. I was not too concerned about this but also had not driven it for long periods of time to see where the temps end up. Today I was in rush hour traffic and was alarmed to see 218 on the ECT and 228 on the oil temp. The ambient temp was 112. These temps slowly came back down once I got clear of traffic and running 65 in open air. Granted this was being on and off the gas at about 40 MPH in traffic trying to maintain a decent separation from the car in front of me so hard driving. I will soon be pulling a travel trailer behind it and think that these numbers are way to high and would like to know what others are running in these ambient temps if there is anyone with that info. The dash needled stayed pegged in the middle no matter what the temps were so I don't trust those much. Other than that the truck runs fine, No hard starting, just a little black smoke out the tailpipe if I really get on it and run the boost up to 33 at low speeds but not near as much as some of the trucks I see. I Saw the thread about a blue wire test, I will read that and run that test to check the clutch lockup. I think I can even add a gauge on the OBD Fusion to tell me when the computer signals for clutch lockup and I will try to see what that says as well. Are there aftermarket radiators and oil coolers that are recommended for towing? Thanks in advance for any info.

Jason

I would start my own thread on this, but I will say seeing 33 lbs of boost, if that is accurate, is going to lift the heads.
