Can you find the break?? Cut the casing and try pulling on the internal cable with a pair of pliers. Depending on where it broke that may or may not work. It is a PIA though. Good luck. BTM
I have changed several through the years and installing the new one is not terribly difficult.
While I am not a proponent of dealerships the one close to me has been helpful on several occasions for small items like this. Stop by and talk to one of the service writers and ask them how to get your hood open and ask for a quote for repair. You can either have them fix it or do it yourself but at least you'll know how to get your hood open.

This is not a helpful response to put it politely. If someone is trying to get under the hood its because something is obviously wrong and they can't get to a dealership.

I disagree. I never said to drive the truck there and the OP never mentioned that the truck was disabled.
Over the years I have had good success with advice from the dealership and was just passing along a resource that may not have been considered.
If my hood latch was broken my first option would be Google/YouTube and my second would be the dealership (either in my truck or my wife's car).

Not always. I had a '99 GMC S-series Jimmy that broke the cable for the hood release when I was trying to check the oil. Nothing was wrong and it wasn't disabled, the cable just gave up.
I was able to order a new latch cable, and when I was having trouble figuring out how to open the hood to replace it, I stopped by a dealer and asked. They had a service tech come out and show me - on that thing the grill literally just pulled straight out because it was held in with clips. They didn't charge me for the 5 minutes of the guy's time.
As much as people on here love to trash dealers, they are a pretty decent resource if you can find a good dealer nearby.
