Ellsworth says hello!

Hello to fellow Ford Truck enthusiasts,

I am having a difficult time narrowing an apparent fuel delivery problem to my 1995 F150 4.9. Last winter I changed the fuel pump in the forward tank because it would not start, and again now it just won't start. I can hear the pump running and it will start with starter fluid but nothing else. Is there anything else that can keep the fuel from reaching the fuel rail that I am missing?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,

A plugged inline fuel filter on the frame rail?

Do you have any problems with the other tank? Maybe a problem with the valve for selecting tanks.

I thought I replaced the filter when I removed the tank, but I will check the pressure before it anyway. The rear tank has a bad pump also, but if I have to I will pull that tank out and get it working, might be easier than the middle one, at least in this heat.

When you turn the key to "ON", does the fuel pump run for about 2 seconds or does it stay on?

It runs for a few seconds then shuts off, I have also just jumped the EEC out and it runs continuous also. Not sure what’s going on, gonna crawl under and check Power at the pump also fuel pressure starting at pump when I can.

Well it took me some time to get back to the '95 fuel problem, but this is what I found. After troubleshooting everything I could think of, it still pointed back to no fuel pressure from the front tank. So I removed the rear tank and replaced it along with new fuel pump, transferred the fuel and it started right up and ran well.
Hard to believe that the front tank pump motor (new this last winter) could run and still not work, but that is what has happened. I will pull that tank also when this heat wave is over.
Thank you for all the helpful replies.

I would pull and check the selector valve and if it has an issue replace it. It may have an issue where it's not letting fuel thru from the front tank. Otherwise pull the lines from the front tank and the selector valve and see if they are clear. There may be a blockage or damage to the line.

If you think the front tank pump is working and the above all checks out. There may be an issue in the tank with either the pick up itself or the connection from the pump (inside the tank ) . Like a hose that came off or cracked.
