hi all. I am interested in a truck on my local classifieds. Owner claims is a 65 hiboy, and I’m not an expert but I thought that was a 73-79 specific thing. It is a f100 352 4x4 with wrong bed. I don’t have vin yet to confirm, but from what I understand the wrongbed only came on 3/4 ton? Or all 4x4? I’m just a bit confused as to the pedigree of this truck but I’ve always wanted a slick with 4x4 and considering going to see it..
From what you've listed so far it seems to be correct for a 65 F100 4x4. F100 4x4 didn't use the "right" bed until 66 when it also went to coil springs on the front. I don't think Highboy has any official meaning, just what people starting calling some of the Ford 4x4's. Most people consider the 67 to 77-1/2 F250 4x4s to be Highboys. I tend to include the older F250s back to 59. Late 77s, 78 and 79 are not Highboys.
Anyway, looks to be a decent truck worth a look.
In 1965 both the F100 and the F250 4wd came with the wrong bed and 1966 only the F250 came with the wrong bed. Not technically a hi boy but they do sit about the same height as the later hi boys so it’s not uncommon for people to use the term.
Ya looks pretty rusty, was parked 3 years ago and currently not running. I think it’s priced a bit too high for the condition. If the price was good I’d be tempted to swap the cleaner body off of my 64 f100 with right bed and normal fenders onto the 4x4 frame...
