1963 F-100 4x4, how many built?
hey thanks for the info, I went and got a 1965 red and white tu-tone custom cab longbed yesterday (352,3sp) minor body damage. I was going to make it a 4x4 using the 63 for parts, but seeing that it was built in such low numbers, I think I'll pass on that idea.
yes the 63 has the 57-69 bed and split rims. last licenced in 1977, and last used in 1983 missing a starter solonoid, I will replace it and see if it runs.

Truckfarmer, The 4x4 "stylesides" came from Ford with a '57-'60 box from 1961-1965, due to having a shorter wheelbase. In '66, the F-100 4x4 could be had with either 115" or 129" wheelbase (at extra cost). I believe this is why you will see some '66 F-100's with both styles of boxes. I saw one ('66 F-100 4x4) here in the picture gallery that had a '66 bed on it too. The '66 F-250 4x4 used the '57-'60 box (120" wheelbase).

okay heres the facts:
the production numbers are right in the other posts.
4x4's came with either the styleside(57-60 box) or the flareside.
the 4x4's were all 8 foot trucks till 1966 and the SWB 4x4 could be offered along with the LWB.

Kenny has it about right. The F-250 4x4 maintained the 120" WB for the 8' beds through '66. The F-100 4x4 with 8' bed was also on the 120" WB plan until the '66 model year when it went to 128". That is why '66s use the later beds. This also is when the Twin I-beam 4x2 came on line. The '65 F-100 4x4 still had leaf springs up front and the 120" WB. '66 saw the first coil sprung 4x4 along with the intro of the Bronco. A little distjointed, but oh well. I'm not sure if Ford ever made a 4x4 (F-100 or F-250) before '67 with a short box (6 1/2' bed).

1963 F-100 4x4, how many built?
Brent, I'm sorry I couldn't get back to you sooner. I've been away on a business trip all week. I have two books here that I have been using for production numbers. Each book claims to be using actual Ford production numbers. I've been checking one book against the other in case of misprints before I post, but both books so far have been printing the same info. One book is "Ford Pickups 1957-67" by Paul G. McLauglin, that I purchased from "Motorbooks International". The other book is "Standard Catalog of American Light Duty Trucks", which I purchased from "Krause Publications". I hope this helps you.

Kind of on the same thread..
I have a '64 F250 4X4 with the 8' styleside bed. The bed needs to be replace and I am wondering if the flareside bed would fit and give enough clearance on a 4X4. The styleside is ok but it really doesn't fit the '64 cab style. Any thoughts on this?

Rob, I don't want to say it won't work, but the 1964 F-250 4x2 (which was available in 8' flareside), and the 1964 F-250 4x4 had different wheelbases. The 1964 4x4 was available in Flareside, but only on the F-100 with swb.
LaMar, The "Styleside" is the flat or straight sided bed with the wheel wells on the interior of the bed. The "Flareside" has the wheel wells (fenders) on the exterior like the older style 1950's trucks. The flareside also has a step between the cab and rear fender.

Then there must be two types of stylesides (with and without chaines on the tailgate). Mine is the 57-60 vintage where it doesn't match the cab style, has chains and a higher wheel well profile. Then there is the post 57-60 styleside that was used on the 1/2 ton (non 4x4) that matches the cab. Is it true that the 64 F100 (non 4x4) has a different wheelbase than the 64 F250 3/4 ton and 4x4?
