I want to order new wood block spacers for my '58 F100 Styleside Shortbed. I keep getting conflicting information on whick blocks I need. I have the diagram that has been going around with 5 blocks but I am being told that I only need 4, 3, or even 2 depending on who you ask. Number Dummy to the rescue???
Don't know if you got an answer or not and no one posted an answer so here's a bump to the top.
With that I also don't have an answer and I don't have your year truck, 81 flare side.
But here is what I am thinking based on mine.
My cross braces are up side down U's that the bed wood floor rest on and the wood blocks are used at each bed bolt location inside the U's. The wood keeps the bolts from crushing the braces.
The wood is also a little larger than the U so the brace does not hit the frame and make noise.
So with that said where is the wood used? At the bed bolt locations?
Are the cross braces up side down U's that could be crushed if the bed bolts are pulled down to tight?
If so then I would think you need blocks at each bed bolt.
Just my take on it.

Thanks for the reply. For the fridges and maybe earlier F series they used hard wood blocks as spacers between the bed and frame. Depending on type of bed and length what you need is different. Just trying to get some info from someone with the same truck to see what blocks I need to buy.
The later flare sides also used the hard wood block spacers but they were only at the bed bolts locations.
We're yours at all cross member locations and if so what kept them from sliding out?

Hey Martin, mine is a flair side although a long box and was never removed. What I found in mine was a thin piece of rubber in the front two and rear two mounts and wood blocks in the four middle mounts. The bolts go through them and there is some kind of steel pin/screw to keep the blocks in place during installation. I haven’t removed the wood blocks yet so not sure what kind of fasteners the used. Hope this helps.
