Just out of curiosity, what size trailers do you pull? I have a 68F250 camper special FE360 and was trying to get an idea of a size trailer that can be pulled comfortably. Now I know it all depends on conditions like altitude change and how much power I'm willing to sacrifice and making sure I have good stopping distance. But I was hoping to see some pics of everyone's truck and trailer set up! Here is what I'm driving.
Check out this thread. Now he is using an F100 with a modified 315C but your FE360 has a lot of low end grunt. He also has smaller brakes and rear end.
I am towing a 20" boat w/ trailer that I would guess weighs in at 4500 Lbs. 390 w/ C6 tows with no issues as long as I stay on main roads to keep the speed up for airflow and avoid slow country roads with numerous stops and turns on VERY hot days. Ask me how I know this!
Let me guess, trial and error? My family goes tent camping at a lake about 7,000 feet in elevation and I live in a valley that's only about 300 feet. So its a pretty good climb and I have been looking at camping trailers with an unloaded weight of about 4,000 lbs. If I get the trailer my first go wont be the mountain but ultimately that is the plan for it. The roads are big enough that a 40 foot motorhome can make it.
A couple of things that help with cooler running: a fan shroud, and a 5 or 7 blade fan. Better options include high flow water pump, clutch for 7 blade fan, or electric fan set-up. A yearly engine and rad flush (wash the bugs off the fins too) helps too.

I have a 1968 F-250 Camper Special with a 390 FE. I towed a fully packed 20' enclosed trailer with mine. Not sure of the total weight, but it had to be very heavy. The trailer had brakes (wouldn't ever do it without trailer brakes at that size and weight). Truck did great, but I would suggest that you make sure your cooling system is tip top before towing anything significant. The weight is taxing. On mine I upgraded to a Mark IV electric two stage fan that pulls more air than I could ever need (one of the best upgrades I've ever made). "Air conditioner on" and towing and runs right down the middle of the temp gauge!
