It has been a 5-6 months since I installed and I can't remember what I ate for supper last night. Anyway......... pretty sure I used 12 gauge ....... may have used 14. I looked at some wire guides to determine size/gauge.
Great write up. Since I didn't want any lights hanging below my truck (tired of burying them in snow banks in the winter), I invested in a pair of Whelen Ion duals mounted on a Whelen license plate bracket. Each Ion is about $125 and the bracket was $20. Very easy to mount and no lights hanging below the bumper.
I have the red/clear IONS (D code from factory). They flash red and have clear override. The Ions are available in red/clear. blue/clear and amber/clear combinations. Whelen even makes an Ion trio (r/b/w). If tyou want to add extra stop/turn signals, use can use the steady burn feature of the Ion and wire to the left and right stop/turn wire of your truck. I have the reds set to flash since I am authorized to have red emergency lights on my truck.
I am just a big fan of Whelen products. All are made in either new Hampshire or Connecticut, come with a 5 year no questions asked warranty and have incredible customer service people. I am no way affiliated with Whelen, other than being friends with several employees (wish I got their discount).
Safe miles all.
I have a video posted on you tube to see these lights in action.

I like these Whelen ion lights!! I looked over a couple of videos......... every video all I saw was flashing patterns. It would be nice to see how they do just white and steady on (no flash). I really like their compact size, I'm sure they put out enough light to benefit but not sure how much.
On the Whelen Duo, the clear(white) steady will always override the flashing color/pattern. They are very bright and have a great pattern. No dark spots behind my truck at all when turned on. (Upfitter #2 switch)
