Safe to coat fuel tank with pickup tube in place?
Fuel line attaches here.
Fuel pickup line as seen through sending unit port.
I am refurbishing an in-cab fuel tank from a 1968 Ford F250 pickup. It had a couple of pinhole leaks that would drain the tank. I've cleaned the tank, epoxied the pinhole leaks from the outside and was preparing to line the tank with Red-Kote Fuel Tank Liner when I noticed the fuel pickup line inside the tank. It appears to be pressed in permanently. It looks like it picks up the fuel from the bottom of the tank, although it's not obvious how fuel enters the tube. I suspect there are tiny intake holes near the bottom of the tube. I've attached photos of where the fuel line connection port on the outside of the tank and the fuel tube on the inside of the tank.
I am afraid that if I seal the tank it will also prevent fuel from entering the pickup tube. Any suggestions?
You are absolutely correct! It definitely will! Trust me. I know!
Best I could come up with (on my replacement tank after I screwed my first up) was to take a piece of cable and drop through before I coated mine. Has to be something very tuff to be able to pull back out for the sealer will glue it in there. Copper is too weak. But try to pull it out while it's wet.

Thanks for the reply. I got this simple idea from another forum: blow out the tube with compressed air immediately after coating the tank while it is wet. I just put the first coat on (with a quart of Red-Kote thinned with 8oz acetone) and blew it out with a bike pump since I don't have compressed air here. I think the pickup tube is open at the end as there was no resistance to the air. Planning to do the same with a second coat.
