intermitent abs light on dash

01 f150 - rear wheel drive , 4 wheel disc brakes
wondering why this comes on - it's doing it freequently but not everytime I drive the truck

could the issue be my rad cradle being rotted BADLY at the front body mounts
is there a way to check abs for fault codes

you don't know the problem without getting a code, but one reason that is more common than others is the rear sensor in the axle pumpkin not reading " similar" to the front wheel sensors....... The rear sensor can get random readings if steel filings or dirt collect on the pickup that is looking at the ring teeth inside. I had to replace the pickup on my Explorer and had to clean the pickup on the F150........ when was the last time you changed the rear axle oil ? You can pull the sensor out the TOP and clean and check.

thanks
I think you might be onto something with the contamination - but rather my driver's front wheel
pads are done on that wheel , wheel is brown and filthy
ring and sensor probably are too

looking to change to another truck soon so no biggie - this one's gonna become a parts truck soon enough

In my case (1998 F-250) it was the ABS sensor that screws into the rear pumpkin. It did generate a code that indicated trouble with the ABS sensor.
The sensor is magnetic, and collects shavings that break loose from the differential. Eventually, enough shavings accumulate to cause the sensor to intermittently error.
Replacing the sensor cleared up my problem, but you might just try removing the sensor, wiping the metal shavings off it, and re-installing.

OK . might have an odd solution for this one

still had the intermittent abs light right up to a week ago

bought a new battery a month ago - alternator was dieing slowly .. batt light would also come on progressively more often until it crapped out entirely

put a new alternator and belt on last week (friday) and I haven't seen the abs light since

so far I'm presuming this might have been a voltage to the abs system issue all along
-though I wasn't seeing the battery light back when I first posted
- that only started a little over a month ago

and no I din't buy a battery because the light came on ...(edit din't ?? lol)
old one was my battery from my car that needed to go back where it belonged before it got killed for good

and I'm glad the couple of weeks of short trips .. never to far from the battery charger , are over
(sigh)
