abs is kicking in at low speed stops..I read some of the links and gathered that its probly the rear abs sensor..I replaced it with a new one and the prob remains..however if I disconnect the wire to the sensor..the probl stops..leads me to believe that the new sensor is maybe bad??the new sensor has a plastic shield around most of it..it seems to me this should be removed..but the parts guy at ford said no..that was the new design..I'm gonna leave it disconnected for now so I can drive to work I'll check back tonight to see if anyone has an answer...1985 explorer sport4x
I guess you mean 1995 Explorer. I think these only had rear ABS, not front right? One of the reasons the sensors "go bad" is they get coated with metal shavings floating around in the diff oil. You may want to change the fluid, clean off the sensor and try it again.
yea its a 1995..there shouldn't be any metal shavings in the diff..there would have been some residue on the old one,its a magnet and they would have stuck to it don't ya think??
You could try another sensor and see if that corrects the problem. I believe that when you disconnect the rear sensor the system becomes inactive because it doesn't see a rear sensor at all when it performs its self diagnostics at startup.
Actually my 93 Explorer has 4 wheel ABS. That was the first year I believe. But then I thought they went back to just the rears since that's what actually locks up under normal conditions. But there are probably several combinations.
