What’s the difference between the two plz help

What is the difference in a 1999 7.3 and a 2000 7.3 engine and can I use the in a 99 Or can I use the transmission in a 2000

The 99 should have stronger rods but other then that they are similar. I think the trans are interchangeable but someone might correct me on these two statements.

Wasn't 97 the last year for forged rods?.I was lead to believe the 99 and up used powder-coated.Anyone?

It was some time in the 2000 model year that they started using PMR rods. Anything before that has forged rods from the factory. Somewhere around here, there's a thread that shows exactly when the change was made and what serial numbers to look for.
