Hey guys, I need some help, I have an extremely frustrating problem with my 05 6.0. In the last couple years I've put over 10k into it and the damn trucks spends miney faster than i make it. And now after a full bulletproofing kit I keep getting high pressure oil leaks. I took it apart the first time and replaced all the nipple cups and put it back together and that didn't help. At this point I have no more time to work on it since I work sun up to sundown this time of the year. I had a friend how works on 6.0s all the time replace the sct fitting for the second time and after about a thousand miles it won't hot start, take it apart and it's just finger tight and a blown out oring. What could cause this to keep happening?
Not a big deal, but it is STC (snap to connect), the tuner is SCT.
Are you following the instructions on installation? Where are you buying the fitting from? Are you using the installation guide bracket and plastic bolts (properly adjusts the jam nut fitting)?

Sounds like possibly an alignment issue with the STC fitting.
Has a reputable shop done the first STC? Mistakes happen, there is a torque spec that applies to the jam nut and the alignment needs to be spot on for that o ring to seat 100% all around........multiple STC failures are really rare. If things are not aligned just right then the o ring is not going to last that long.
Edit.......hey Mark, see you are lurking this post
Sorry, I was using a voice to text app and I was saying stc but it was auto correcting to sct. I do know the difference. I also read it could be a rear plate crack causing these. I didn't use a dealer to do these but my dad did the first who read the directions to a T, and the second guy who did it has done countless 6.0 jobs and knows them like the back of his hand he's owned a lot of them and does them on the side. Do you think it could be a tuner problem? I have oversized 155/30 injectors on it. That last guy is too busy to get to it now so I'll be bringing it elsewhere. I just don't want this to happen again, it's a tool not a toy for me.
all parts are oem other than injectors and manifolds
at this point I really want to get it reliable and sell it to get another 6.2 which has been flawless for me and has really good power stock (I routinely pull over 15k). When you are using the truck for profit your priorities really change. No offense to anyone I do love the 6.0 But if you need a reliable tool to make money and take the least amount of your money as possible the diesels aren't the tool for the job
I really doubt injectors has anything to do with multiple STC failures, but if the rear plate was cracked you would likely see oil leaking there.
Funny you mention the 6.2 for pulling heavy. It's the last engine I would use for that. I have a 6.2 in my truck at work that I use for pulling the in laws 11k lb 5ver that we use to go camping. Truck is an absolute pooch pulling that thing, maybe it's the gearing? At any rate, it's got some really stupid quirks I can't stand.
As for your argument that a diesel isn't the right choice for the job? Pandora, meet box.
Add me to the "not the injectors and not the tuner" list.
I assume it is the jam nut that is loose? Maybe the torque wrench is out of calibration?
Also, see instruction note, maybe he is using different tools/techniques -
NOTE: TORQUE SPECIFICATION FOR STEP 8 IS CALCULATED FOR THE USE OF A CROW FOOT OPEN END WRENCH

I agree, that was a stupid statement made out of frustration (and whiskey😅. But in my case i have had four diesels and three gas trucks and in every single case the diesel has taken more money from me than the gas engines at years end, every single year. And it's not even close.
if you are comfortable with letting it sing the 6.2 has lots of power, I would say better acceleration when towing than my 6.0 when it was stock and definitely when empty, tuned is a whole other ballgame. Stock it has more hp. Yeah it seems like a pooch at first til you just let it scream. Also, a tuner from 5 start REALLY makes it feel like a new truck. You don't gain hp but the driveability significantly improves
I guess I will have another fitting out in and make sure it is done how you guys say.. I hope it doesn't happen again
