Bubble cup holder TSB?

Hi guys,

I've searched the forum and found many threads on guys having trouble with the cup holder bubbles being pushed in and not returning to normal. I have also seen where some were lucky enough to have the dealer install the "new style" (Job 2 through 2018) where it is a "spring" backed tab instead of the rubber bubbles. I took the truck in to have them replaced, and they replaced the back ones with the new style, but the front ones with the same darn bubbles. (Which quickly were pushed back in again).

Is there a TSB or something where I can get the new style ones? The dealer is telling me there is nothing they can do, as those parts are the ones that are being reported by the Ford system as the replacements, and even giving them the part number to the new style can't be used.

Any advice would be appreciated. I am tempted to immediately make another appointment to have them replaced as I pick up the truck, and simply keep dropping it back off over and over again until they fix it with the new style, considering they keep getting pushed in. Surely Ford will see that the bubbles aren't any good. (Hence the design change)

Just one bump to see if anyone has had any luck getting their cup holders replaced recently with the new style. Thanks!

I complained to my dealer on my 17 lariat and they swapped them for the new style ones. First time I mentioned it they took care of it. My dealer is pretty cool though

Thank you. I forwarded this thread to my service advisor so she can see it isn’t unprecedented. Not sure what will come from it. Wish me luck!

There was never a TSB. Many dealers did it when the change was first made but Ford clamped down and is now telling dealers they must swap the cupholders with the same style that is being removed. There are workarounds for this and after some pressure my dealer found a way. It took some wrangling though.

My 2018 has the "spring" backed tab, but honestly I don't have much hope for them either. Had those in my Fusion and they lasted a year before the springs broke. I try to keep larger cut that would push them all the way in in the left side cupholders. I am certain that's what broke the ones in my Fusion. Bad design all the way around that Ford needs to come up with a real fix for.

Sometimes they try to reinvent the wheel. Never had an problems with the cup holders in my 2012 F-150.
