So tried my full spare nitto ridge grappler 295/65/20 and it fits but nothing bigger would. One of the reasons I didn’t want to go 37” tired of have full spare in bed.
You can limp with the fronts mismatched. Dont ever do it in the rear, you'll destroy your gearing since they are spinning at different speeds.
With that line of reasoning, you should never go around a corner either. If you are in snow or mud, forget about ever spinning a tire. Catastrophic failure is guaranteed to happen....
In doing some math, a 295/65-20 tires spins around 588 revs/mile. A 37/12.5-20 spins 565 revs/mile, or about 32 revs a mile difference. The whole purpose of a differential is to allow the axle shafts to spin at different speeds, i.e. differential speeds. I wouldn't recommend running mismatched tires on the rear unless absolutely necessary, but in a pinch, it won't hurt anything for a short distance. For longer distances, swap tires around until you have two similar sized tires on the rear axle.
It is not recommend for any engaged axle... I was told if I had to... Do mismatch on front... Not in 4wd... I believe the rear mismatch can be extremely bad very quickly.. for the elocker rear which I had... Was told to NEVER...do it... I had stock 18" spare and 37" BFG tires
Maybe a Ford mechanic is on here and can chime in be great to know for sure
People put donut tires on the backs of cars with limited slip diffs all the time.
And those people are effing up their diffs. In our trucks specifically it will prematurely wear out the clutch packs, and pretty fast too if you're moving at highway speeds.
