So about a month ago, I replaced the drivers side cv axle with a brand new one. today i see some oil in the driveway, well i grab onto the cv axle and it moves in and out........its not supposed to do that!! GRRR. Something failed inside the inboard joint and caused slop and caused the axle seal on the front diff to fail and dumped the oil out!! Im sure glad i didnt take the truck to New Hampshire this weekend! So tommorow i call and fight with the auto parts place and get the axle warrantied. I pulled the seal and the cv mounting flange. My question is, does the flange just slide into the front diff? It doesnt look like its supposed to be attatched to anything inside....just splined and free floating correct? I have attatched a pic

so after much much work, YES there IS a snap ring on the drivers side flange. the front diff does have to be removed or at least lowered don inorder to fully remove the front dif cover. And let me tell ya...there is NO room inside there to work, you defintely need a pair of 90 degree snap ring pliers to put this thing on. So its back together and waiting overnight for the rtv black to dry and then we'll fill er up and hopefully be able to use it tommorrow.....to drive to the dentist for my root canal!!
