Starter/Ignition Wire help
So, I've got a couple of issues today, but I'll put them in separate threads not to convolute things.
Yesterday when I got out of work, I hopped in my Ex and tried to start it. It began to turn over, but stopped and i could hear the starter just spinning loudly. I turned off the key, it kept spinning. Key back on, turned to start, just kept going. Had to remove both battery cables to make it stop. So, had to get my Ex towed home.
Fast forward to today. I got myself a replacement starter (the spinning issue was reminiscent of a solenoid problem I had in another truck once) and came home and did the replacement. All was good.
But, once everything was buttoned up, I turned the key. Nothing. I could hear some clicks from the starter, but it didnt even turn over. Well crap. So lets troubleshoot:
1) Jumped the solenoid directly. Trucked turned over immediately. Ok, so the starter works.
2) Moved up to the starter cable that runs along the passenger side of the engine compartment. Unplugged it and put the starter-end to the positive terminal of the battery. The truck again, turned over immediately.
3) Checked the fuses. Everything's good.
Well crap. What now. So I sat down on a chair out next to the truck and started googling stuff. I found a post on another forum of something with the same issue. He narrowed it down to a short wire that is bundled inside the wire harness that runs between the EGR and the oil filter. So, I messed with that harness a little, just moved it around a bit, and then tried to start the truck again.
Started. Right. Up.
Ok. So there's apparently a wire inside that harness with a short. And this brings me to the point of this thread.
Does anyone know of a wire, inside that cluster of wires right on top of the engine that runs right in front of the oil filter, that affects the starter?
The haynes book doesnt help, and my google searches thus far have not yielded any positive results, so I turn to my internet breathren for assistance...
