I had a small wire burn up on my 86 F250 302 EFI. Question #1 is what does it go to, #2 is what size fusible link is on it. I'm gonna replace the wire and put an inline fuse in it.
I think it might go to something in the fuel system because my fuel pump went out shortly before this caught fire. In fact, I had turned the key on to test the relay when I discovered this wire burning up
Some how some way, you are going to have to figure out what color it is. Is there a good piece that is not burnt up downstream and can you figure out the colors? That's the only way I can help you figure out which wire it is.
Feeding the original fuel pump relay on your truck should have been a yellow wire. It had a 20 gauge blue fusible link in it. I prefer fusible links or a circuit breaker myself instead of fuses.
The wire is blue from the solenoid to the fusible link, then its yellow from the fusible link on. It burnt up between the fusible link and the solenoid.
That does sound like it could be the wire feeding the fuel pump relay. It's at the top of page 103 in this link. These schematics are for your year truck.
The wire is blue from the solenoid to the fusible link, then its yellow from the fusible link on. It burnt up between the fusible link and the solenoid.
FYI the fuse link is from the rubber block to the solenoid. Normal wire from the rubber block to the trucks harness.
You can get the links at the auto parts store.
