I am having some major issues with my 64 f100. I am new to this site and I really don't know much about computers or how these forum sites work. If I mess up, please tell me what I need to do to fix the problem. I am hoping that thru advice and input from others, I can resolve my issues with the mess my truck is in. I had a 5.0 put in my 64 F100. E4od transmission and computer all were put in as well. First of all the truck starts, idles and starts off good. It misses, sputters, will not change gears or get over 40mph. Can anyone help with the information I have provided? Thanks

Welcome to the forum smasoner
I sent a note to the powers of being to move this to the thread that will get you more replies
Well, sorry for my ignorance, but I went looking for this thread in it's new home......but when I click on the FORUMS list, I do not see any listing for a TECH forum??
Get your hands on a computer code reader appropriate to your engine and see what codes it displays. You may be able to borrow one for free from Auto Zone/O;Reilly's or other parts store. Or they may read the codes for you. Failing that, they don't have to cost all that much to buy and can come in useful later on. It may help you with a starting point and a direction to look. One other observation - since your engine is a transplant, some of the systems that were operational in the engine's OEM configuration may not be now so some of the codes it gives off may be irrelevant. Example: I put a '91 Mustang 5.0 into a '64 Falcon. It didn't need the emissions stuff so I eliminated the smog pump and EGR system. The engine runs fine without them, but the computer, when asked, will say they need to be repaired. And yet one other observation - I hope you have better luck with your E4OD than I did. My 460 powered '92 F250 4 x 4 ate two of them while towing a horse trailer that was supposedly well within its capability. A failed VSS sensor was blamed for one of them. Ford replaced the second one under warranty and I quickly got rid of the truck. Good luck with your search.
Thanks for all of your responses. I know a fair share about "old school" mechanics. I have hardly any knowledge of the electronics on computerized engines/transmissions. To sum it all up, The shop that restored my '64 is owned by a man that I have known for 39 years. He builds, restores, and has a body shop. I had complete trust and faith in him. We agreed on a price up front. I sent the truck to him in Feb. of 2016 on a rollback. I told him that when it was done, I wanted to drive it home. He wanted money up front. I gave him 1/4 of the agreed price. He would call and say that he needed some more, I would take it to him. He would call and give me a list of parts needed, I would get them. I found out along the way that he was less capable of getting this done than I had originally thought. Here is what I have now, ( 2 1/2 years later) The body is ok. New panels, all rust cut out, no filler. 5.0 from a 1994 ford f250 with an E4od. All glass , weatherstrip is new and installed. New steering column, new lights and trim, crown vic. front suspension. New radiator, battery. He called a month ago and said it was ready to go. He asked for more money. I took him more money, had to fill all fluids to drive it home. I had 3 times the agreed amount invested in this truck than agreed. I barely got it home. Something is not communicating with the computer. I even paid an automotive electrician over 2500.00 plus bought a painless wiring harness. I know I got screwed. I am surprised that he would do this to me after all of the years we have known each other and done business. Thanks again to all of you for your input.
