Chrome polish works beautifully on glass. My son polished my windshield several times with it, and talk about clear... water beaded up like he had used Rainex on steroids. In even heavy downpours, I didn't even need to use my wipers at all until I hit about 60 mph. The water beading effect would typically only last about 3 months, but there were never any scratches and it an easy and rather low cost thing to do. Add a random orbit buffer to the mix, and it's a snap!

It will come off with cerium oxide. Either 3M Glass Polish or the private label from Glass Technology. I have been using it for years for restoring glass that is not easily replaced or reproduced. You can use a random orbital with a heavy cut orange foam.
