Cup Cleaning

Guys
finally getting to do my injectors this weekend. Kinda spur of the moment but been waiting a long time to do them.
When i pull them out how should i clean the cups ? I have read mixed reviews on using the brushes. Some say they can scratch the cups. Others say use microfiber rags on a wood dowel with wd40. Looking for the best safest result. Only want to go in once.
thanks yall

I use microfiber rags and clean the oil/fuel residue out using a plastic dowel. I don't use any brushes or solvents especially since the use of a solvent could undermine the integrity of the cup sealant. I then check them for leaks and then apply a light coating of engine oil to assist the injector o-rings getting into place without damage. I then lube the injector o-rings also. If you decide to use brushes, I'd stick to copper since it is softer than the material in the cups. Unlike me, some of my friends don't clean the cups out at all nor do they pressure test the cups and they have no issues.

While the injectors are out, you might consider pressure testing the cups just to make sure that there are no leaks.

The only time I use brushes is when the cups need to be replaced and then, only in the head itself to remove the old compound.

Draining the coolant and pressure testing the cooling system with the injectors out is an easy way to leak test the cups (I spray silicon spray in there to look for bubbles because it's harmless).

I used a small flat blade screwdriver for the "rough" cleaning to chip off the old chunks of sealant. Then I used brushes for the "medium" cleaning. I finished off with microfiber towels for the "fine" cleaning. Instead of a dowel I cut the tip off of a paintbrush. The taper also worked well to put in the injector hole when I was chipping the old sealant off.
