I have carbon build up in my injector cups from improperly seated injectors. Can I use brake parts cleaner to help dissolve the carbon, or some other cleaner. Right now a wood dowel and rags is taking an extremely long time. Thanks!
I'll try the seafoam rag idea. Last night I stuck a rag soaked in wd-40 and that helped. I used a nylon toothbrush dipped in wd-40 as well and that was working. I just want to make sure whatever I use won't cause an engine problem if it leaks into the combustion chamber. I pressure tested the cooling system and there were no leaks. I may end up replacing the cups, but I really want to avoid that. The tool required is about $300 or more.
I used a 12 gauge barrel cotton swab on a drill soaked in carb cleaner
I pressurized my coolant system, and then assembled my 12 ga cotton swab. When I returned, guess what... #7 cylinder cup is leaking coolant at 16 psi. Soooooo, now it's time to replace them. Might as well get them all done. What sucks is I'll need to tow the truck to a local shop to change them out. I just don't have the tools nor confidence to do it myselft.

I don't know if others would be interested, but I'd chip in to buy the tool together with some guys and then just ship it around to whoever needs it. Seems like it could be pretty straightforward if we got 10 guys together. It's such a seldom used thing for someone like me, but I really think it is worth replacing my cups when I do my injectors given I'll have 250k on the engine by then.
Hmmm. The above link isn't working. Try to locate OEM/Factory Parts link on the Riff Raff website, and look for this part number: F4TZ9F538A :Motorcraft 7.3L Injector Cup Repair Kit.
That makes it seem like a no brainer. i suppose you could tap them too if you are trashing the old ones. Probably still a pain to get out and then you might have pices of metal down in the cylinder. Thanks for the info.
