I had a '99 Expedition with the rear air suspension that worked well for my needs. There is apparently no option for rear leveling on the new ones. Has anybody found an aftermarket solution? I'm looking at a new Expy to replace my aging Armada, but a weight distributing hitch is not an option for my trailer setup, or at least I haven't found one that will work. I need the ball height to be 14" above ground level for the trailer to ride level. Anything above that and the hitch load goes up dramatically.
Like I said, there is a set that will work and a local suspension shop will figure out which ones, there's only a few different sizes like small, medium, large.
OK scratch all that the rear is a strut also I didn't know that so those bags wont work, I'd still go to a local suspension shop and they will get you set up.

What is the loaded tongue weight of that trailer?
I use a Rapid-Hitch adjustable height ball mount, which can provide a lot of height adjustment, and never rusts.
Loaded trailer is 4500, so using the 10-15% guideline it should be between 450-675. Depending on how I load the car, it measures between 400-500 if the trailer is level (top of the ball at 14"). I use a 8" drop ball mount to achieve that height. The lowest setting on my Reese equalizer hitch puts the ball at 21". At that height the load is over 800#.

If you don't load the tail end of the Expediton too much, you vehicle should be able to support 400-500 pounds of tongue weight. Mine does. If you have heavy objects you are hauling, such as tool chests, or spare parts, try to load them right behind the front seat, where they will only put part of their weight on the rear axle. Light items can be placed behind the rear axle of the Expedition.
