Hello all, I just got done doing a full tune-up on my 94 Ford F15o v8 5.0, that included plugs and wires, rotor bug, distributer cap, and fuel filter. The cutting out seemed to stop but now it is back. Its not as bad as it was, so the tune-up did help, but it is still noticable, especially when fighting up hills. I guess because I have to give it more gas. I am thinking either Fuel Injectors or Timing Chain and gear. My truck has 230,000 miles on it, and I gave it the first tune up it had ever had, so im guessing not much else has been changed. And if it is the fuel injectors, would I be able to clean them out? And if I had it done, how much would it cost? And if it is the timing chain, how much would buying the chain and gear and having it installed going to run me? I really appreciate the help!!
Sounds almost like the problem I had with my 88 Bronco, I took mine to Ford and with a few extras and injectors cleaned it still did it($600). I did a tune up(wires, cap, rotor and plugs) and it fixed the problem for about a year and it came back, had to do a tune up again. This time my cap and rotor were corroded and the rotor was pitted, now my problem is GONE. IT sounds like either your injectors might need a good cleaning and maybe check your fuel pressure. Some one else will have more of an idea than I do.
Could my problem also be a stopped up Catalitic Converter? When I give it gas I will sometimes get a concentrated rumble that shakes the truck. It comes in twos most of the time. This is really stumping me. Any help would be great.
I can't tell ya, I have never had one stop up on me, I have only recently heard of that being a problem for some people. Here is the thread when I was asking for help for my Bronco's problem, the first thing suggested was to check the fuel filter then second thing was the Cat. so it could also be your problem, you can take a look at that thread and maybe it will give you some idea of what to check next.
ITs getting even worse now. It is almost back to where it was before the tune up. I have checked my distributor cap and it is tight, so I jsut dont know what to do. Almost everytime I give it gas now it will cut out about 3 or 4 times before it goes, and more and more sharp rattles are happening. It also died on me today when I backed out of my parking space, put it in drive, and gave it gas. It just stopped. I put it in park, started it, and it actually went. Any more suggestions?
Update: I just had a diagnostic run at Pep Boys, came back perfectly fine. The mechanic opened the hood while the engine was running and heard a ticking noise, and found that the plug wire boot wasn't far enough over the spark plug. I have to replace all of my wires again. I jsut spent $80 on a diagnostic have a mechanic open the hood and tell me my wires are bad. What luck . But for future reference, anyone with this problem, make sure your plug wires are atleast half way over the spark plug, even the back one that is hard to get on. it sounds stupid, but I really think my problem will be solved. Thanks for everyone that has been tryin to help!!
