I love this stuff! Well done!

So, when you're checking the preload, does that measurement only include the pinion? Or do you fully load the LSD/ring gear (all the internals)?

Just the pinion with the seal installed. Once you have the pinion pre-load set you drop in the carrier with RG. You also want pre-load on the carrier bearings. The generally accepted practice is - If you can get the shims in with a rubber mallet, that is about the right pre-load on the carrier bearings.

On the Sterling rearend, the shims go in-between the bearing and the housing. They are the shiny part you can see between the bearing caps and the housing.

On the Dana front axle, the shims go between the carrier and the bearings - before you press the bearings onto the carrier.

They are fantastic bikes. I’ve spent a lot of time on the 1290 and 1090. Can’t wait for the 790 for out here in the east. Should be perfect for Kentucky and the like where we can’t open them up for extended periods.

Gravity was a big help getting the old axle and springs out. I think I'm gonna need extra hands to jockey the new parts in.

A buddy came by last night and we got the Modified B-code springs installed. Dang those things are heavy!

Teaser! Wheels and tires have arrived! 20x10s

I ordered bolt-in metal stems rated at 130psi. Torque only to 40inlbs then double nut them.

Also moving the X into this decade with TPMS. This one will monitor the truck, trailer and spares for pressure and temperature.

Strap-on Internal sensor - positioned opposite the valve stem.

Getting Giddy!

I run the TST 507RV TPMS with 8 of the flow through sensors, that setup works very well even without the repeater and our long TT (41' hitch to bumper). I did have a couple of the flow through sensors corrode and have the stem coupler back out when I took them off after two towing trips through the snow and salt. Those internal sensors should work out better, what is the rated service life of the batteries in them?

They claim 5-7yr battery life on the internal units. I went with the internal sensors for the truck in case I decide to get adventurous with the X. On the camper and enclosed trailer, I'm using the externals. The repeater came with the kit, so I'll install it at the rear of the truck. I've read mostly good things about the TST systems - hoping they work out.

Got to work on the X a bit yesterday - got the rear swaybar mounted on the rear axle and the endlinks installed on the frame. Working on swapping the rear bumpstops. Hoping to hang the axle under there this weekend. I'll post more pics when I get a chance.

The slowest project known to mankind continues!

Let's replace the rear bump stops - I reckon we got our money out of them.

Time to roll the new axle under!

Jack 'er up and bolt 'er in with new 5/8"x14" u-bolts.

Looks like we're gonna need to jack 'er up to get tires on it.

Still a bunch of tightenin' and torquein' to do.

Progress continues . . . got the rearend pretty much wrapped up.

New SS brake lines, new KYB Shocks, new severe-duty pads and rotors, new adjustable swaybar.

Kinda looking like a Hotrod!

Time to start the front!!
