Check your Air Filter
Recommend using only a Motorcraft OEM Genuine Air Filter. FA-1902 (Check/Confirm) $18.44 (Prime) on Amazon
The OEM Air Filter was engineered/designed just for the Ford 6.7L Diesel Motor.
Takes 5 minutes to check... Very Easy.. Don't rely only on the vacuum guage.. Pull the filter out to check..
People are always concerned about 1 or 2 MPG (Could be a lot more).. A clogged Air Filter could be just that. Your Motor is choking.. It cannot breathe.. Diesel motors take in a lot of air...
From the 2015 SD Diesel Supplement Owners manual
The restriction gauge, located on the upper housing of the air filter assembly, measures
the vacuum inside the air filter. The more the air filter is restricted (dirty, clogged),
the higher the vacuum reading.
Check the air filter restriction gauge whenever you open the hood to perform
general engine maintenance or at least every 7,500 miles (12,000 km). If you
operate your vehicle in extremely dusty conditions, check and reset the gauge at
least every 500 miles (800 km), or two weeks, whichever comes first. Change the
air filter when the restriction gauge reads near the change filter line and the gauge
is yellow. If you allow the restriction gauge to reach maximum restriction you can
affect your engine performance and fuel economy.
Note: Do not blow out the air filter element with compressed air since the compressed
air could damage the filter paper.
Note: Do not rely on filter appearance alone. A filter which appears to be dirty may
actually have several thousand miles (kilometers) of life remaining.
After installation of the new filter element, reset the gauge by pressing the reset
button on top of the gauge.
The air filter wasn't engineered/ designed JUST for that motor. Ford just gives specs such as X x X x X size and flows X amount of air@ X amount of restriction with X size of particle filtration. It's most likely basic specs for any of thier diesel engines. It's probably an industry standard for modern diesels.
