I am putting on a new bumper and installing a winch today. Last night I was getting ready for the bumper and tried just hooking up the circuit breaker. I recall those can get very hot so I want to do this right.
Should i I hook directly to the battery or can I put the breaker somewhere safe from melting wires?
also even if I try to hook it to the battery it is too thick with the other wires to fit on the current set up.
If you have a fuss/circuit breaker with the winch, connect it to battery and mount it out of the way, there are lots of existing spots on the inner fender to use along with drilling a second hole to secure it. There is usually a way to get the cable lug(s) connected to the battery terminal(s) as well, auto parts stores, sell battery adapters with another offset post if you have a lug that wants to mount to a battery post.
