I fully expect to get blasted for being lazy, but it's storming like hell here and I don't want to walk outside in the rain to get the sizes of the hitch receiver with the sleeve in. Is it 2" or 2.5"? New F250 and I need an adjustable drop hitch to tow with. I already have an Equalizer hitch with Sway bars to pull my travel trailer, but I need a hitch that is on all the time to pull utility trailers, log splitter, etc. I will never pull over 5,000 lbs with this hitch. Sorry to ask. I know I could wait until tomorrow when the weather is better, but it's on my mind now and I want to order one. Just not sure what shaft size to order.
I’m not sure about the 18s, but the 17s could be either 2.5” or 3”, depending upon options. However, either way, they have adaptor sleeves to 2”. Your truck probably has a 2.5”. Since you’re buying a new stinger, I’d suggest that you brave the elements, :-) verify the size, and order a stinger of the correct size. The sleeves are always wobbly and noisy.
My '17 250 has the 2.5" (used truck)...had no pin or insert to 2"....I got a Reese insert at Tractor supply..and the longer locking pin at O'Reilly...I use a strip of old vinyl pool liner to cushion the insert and the hitch cover... No rattles or clunks...
Mine has the 3" hitch on a 17 250. I purchased some extra sleeve inserts and had them welded together to help combat the slop. Total cost was under 40 USD
Glad to know I'm not the only one with slop. I left my hitch on this past week and every time I go over a bump it sounded like my rear end was coming loose.
