Sloppy receiver hitch

So I've read about a few guys talking about their hitch pins being ovaled out creating slop. Ive only towed a few times so far. I have a new B and W drop hitch that banges around so bad with a trailer on it I don't even want to tow. The hitch is right on 2.5". The receiver is about 2 9/16. My receivers on past trucks have always been MUCH tighter. Anyone else have this issue?

It is a 3inch receiver you should have gotten an adapter sleeve with the truck to accommodate the 2.5 draw bar

I know what you are talking about I just bought a new 2.5" weigh safe hitch and it seems loose. Compared to my hitches in the past it is a lot looser. I need to measure my old receiver and compare the difference between the receiver and the hitch, but I bet it is twice as much.

Get a metric bolt that fits tighter in the hitch pin hole #8 or #10 hardness and tighten real tight. Double nut it and drill a hole for safety pin or lock on it.

It's not the pin. The receiver is too big and the hitch rotates around the pin inside the receiver. I've never had one this loose except when I had a wore out aluminum rapid hitch. I'll try to take a video.

You are likely using a 2" or 2.5" drawbar in a 3" hitch. You should have received an adapter with the truck to use with the smaller drawbar.

I use a tape measure for a living. It IS a 2.5" receiver that has an inside dimension of 2 9/16. The new hitch is exactly 2.5". I'm not new to trailers. I have a 2" adapter

I have found the same thing. My 2.5" receiver is pretty loose with my 2.5" weighsafe hitch - much more so that I would care for. I want to say mine was 2 9/16 also..

I've got the same type of slop in my 3 inch hitch.

If it's common I don't doubt the dealer will do anything. I'll probably weld shims inside to tighten it up.

Not really understanding this post?? Don't ALL hitches have some "slop" or movement. Even the older ones without sleeves??? You've got metal going into metal and one has to be "slightly" smaller to fit inside the other. This isn't a micro sized space lazered perfectly !!! It's gonna move.

Yes but I think they poster is saying that the slop is excessive in these new trucks. I have noticed the same thing. My duramax did not have near the same amount of slop as this truck does with my weighsafe.

I guess thes guys that are posting about how to fix it either don't understand the problem or don't have one of these 2017 trucks, a couple of guys have said we have a 3" receiver and a 2.5" hitch, when the guy that started the post clearly stated that it has about a 1/16" slop not a half inch, and others have stated we need to put a oversized bolt in it and maybe bore another hole in it and put two bolts in it. Heck why don't we just weld the darn thing in there. BECAUSE, we just paid $75,000 for a truck and $300.00 for a weigh safe hitch and in my opinion 1/16 of a inch is way too much clearance between these parts. I do some machine work and I would never put 1/16" or .062" clearance in these two parts. 1/2 that or even 1/4 that would be plenty. We don't want to carry a tool box around to change our hitches. I think the guy with the original post was only asking if others were sloppy or was it just his. Just to let him know it is not just his mine is that way also and there is no reason for it to be. After ranting here I just went out and measured my hitches my old f150 has .020 clearance between the hitch and receiver and my new f250 has .100" clearance. It is worse than it first appears the weigh safe hitch is 3" but the ford receiver tube up inside it is about 3.100 and ford has welded a collar around the end of it that is 3.070 trying to help the problem, which doesn't help much. It can still move up and down .100" at the rear of the tube. This inside collar goes to show the tube is too large, because my old 2" tube has the collar around the outside to add strength, not to put a bandaid on a problem. I have a fix for mine I am just going to put some weld on all four sides of my aluminum weigh safe hitch then put it in my Bridgeport mill and machine it down to where it has about .020" clearance. Do chevy and dodge have 2.5" hitches if so how big are they.

I use a 3 inch hitch from Bullet Proof and have no more slop than on my old 99 F350. The additional slop could be from the spacers required for a 2 and 2 1/2 inch receivers.

17STROKES. You got it. I have 5 vehicles with receivers that tow on a daily basis. My brand new expensive truck is the only one with this much play. My work trailers bang up and down so bad I don't even want to pull them.
