What hitch?

I have the fold over type goose ball currently. I would like to use a B&W since to me and others it seems like the best 5th hitch to use.
Can I use one of those with my goose ball or do I need a different attachment? Is there a comparable 5th hitch that I don't have to spend any more money on under or in work?

You could also get an Anderson 5th wheel hitch that will attach to the ball.

I did consider that. Was talking to the RV dealer today, Beckley, and was told they had one snap on them. I'm sure like everything, it could have been a bad one, I didn't ask any history on why. And hey, I drive a 6.0 and they brake all the time, but if I'm going to put a $50,000 12,000-13,000lb 5th, I don't want to take chances.

Anderson has issues with following the outdoor code of conduct.

look their recent legal issues up.

I’d avoid them.

I read that, and while not an extremist myself, I do believe in spending my money on people who are doing the right thing. I have to admit, their product does fit my needs of have to get ready quickly for a weekend when already having to be removing my tool box cap from working to tow.

What a load of arrogant crap.

Can’t make a legitimate argument for or against but have to toss in the hippie crap as if they are somehow remotely related.

They make a fine product and is well tested. Like anything else instructions for installation must be followed.

I seriously considered the Andersen hitch. I think the pros are pretty obvious: namely the extremely light-weight design, a ball coupler that allows unhindered motion with very little slop, and a geometry that puts the king-pin a bit further from the cab. I think the well-known con is that you have to be more precise to get the truck under the coupler. I would add (personal opinion only) that I was not at all impressed with the way the coupler-block attaches to the king-pin. It is universal-fit (good) but it relies on some set screws to keep from rotating around the king-pin (bad design). I'd prefer a more robust design that cannot rotate around the king-pin under severe stress. I didn't like that I couldn't lock the ball in the coupler. I personally like a little resistance in the roll axis to help avoid bed/trailer contact. Finally, and most importantly, I just could not convince myself that the aluminum AUH would keep the trailer chassis behind my cab (and my kids) in a front-end collision.

That's why they have a steel version..... I have had my AUH now for 4 camping seasons - never has it rotated round the king-pin! As far as hooking up, I have the older model AUH- it doesn't even have the cup to help align the ball and at 78 years old with these eyes there isn't any problem. You'll figure out how to hook up in very few attempts. If you can't, you shouldn't be piloting an RV. Another plus in the AUH is a ability to hook up from almost ANY angle..... that in itself is worth the lower cost of the hitch.

The AUH is raved about by most owners. I was just laying out my personal opinion. I'm waiting for the arch-etcher to make a Ford-puck specific version made of steel with a better king-pin mount and lockable coupler. Until then I'll just keep using my chain-hoist. I agree the ball isn't a big deal (like a travel trailer)... but a B&W is truly bone-head easy and a joy to use.

I just pulled my B&W companion out of my 2016. It connects directly to your B&W turn over ball. I can no longer use it with my new truck because I have the factory installed pucks. Let me know if your interested

Do the pucks interfere with the ball-mounted B&W somehow? Or did you just want to swap to a different hitch? I'm just curious.

...but at 79 years of age and still pretty active, I can not move something of this weight like I once could. If lifting is an issue, the AUH is a very good choice. Even the steel version is less than 50 pounds....how much does the B&W weigh?

I have to use a chain-hoist for my B&W. I believe the spec is 267 lbs or so for the manual slider that I have. ~8x more than the AUH.

EDIT: I meant hitching-up the B&W was bone-head easy. Loading it in/out of the truck...not so much!
