I'm thinking 3.5" down pipe to 4" with some sort of a good quality muffler at this point, anyone with insight that would suggest I'm leaning the wrong way?
MagnaFlow with a muffler, stainless, add the exhaust tip of your choice. I deal with Ohio salt and my system is holding up since 2004. Attached a video of what my truck sounds like.

FYI, was going back to oem but when i removed the 4"dp I could see on the dp where it left a rub mark from hitting the fire wall. About 2"spot. Also had another spot rubbing on transmission support brace. So I took a hammer to it and put back. Adjusted the exhaust hanger to lift off the tranny brace. No more vibration and sounds great. To me it does have a deeper growl than with oem.

Each install is different, you just have to massage the spots that are interfering. Glad you got it figured out, enjoy.
