down pipe v clamp

down pipe v clamp
broke my down pipe clamp that holds the down pipe to the turbo, on my down pipe there is a littlel lip sticking up, on the top. where does the clamp go in relation to the little lip. under, on top, or right in the middle of the to clamp ends. or can you just bend the lip out of the way.
