Ok guys, so for the past few days i have heard, like a whirling noise, or like a faint whistle/ fog horn sound coming and going under the hood. The truck ia a 1996 7.5l. Today was inline at pharmacy, heard it again. Drove home, and was still doing it, and even alittle louder. Originally thought could be water pump possibly on its way out. But today crawled under hood, and really put the ear down close to everything i could, and it sounded like from the air intake, it has the banks one on it, so i started pulling the intake apart, and kept listening, as i went, i narrowed it down to the throttle body area, and then, it got louder as i got closer to the IAC. I unplugged it and sound stop immediately. The RPMs dropped as they should. And truck has no codes at all... is this sounding right??? Never heard an IAC make that noise before. But did stop as soon as i unplugged it. Is this noise normal, anyone heard of this? Thanks for input. I did order a Ford one just because
Here's a wild stab in the dark. Take it for what you paid for it.
If the IAC is like other vehicles I have messed with, then it is an electrically operated valve that opens at a variable rate to allow more air into the engine. If it is filthy, then it could create a weird passage for air to pass through. I would suggest you disassemble it and clean it with some throttle body cleaner. A good idea to clean the whole throttle body while you are at it. I wouldn't put a new one in just yet, sounds like it is still functioning. When you unplugged it, it closed, and stopped making noise.
Ya, im assumming its what your saying, just really dirty. I have already ordered a new one, and they are cheap enough i will just go ahead and put it in, see whay happens. But thanks for the input...
Yes, i saw that sticker on top of my throttle body. Not sure what to clean now. Going to try and not clean the blades and to see how bad the passage ways are before i start spraying things down with cleaner. Thanks for input
