Hesitation in the 1500 to 2k RPM zone

2000 F250 Lariat V10 179k
The truck has a miss in the rpm range and when it shifts to OD. The truck also seems to be running rich from the smell of the exhaust. There isnt CELs present and ive replaced the plugs with motorcraft plugs, New MAF, Air filter, ran 2 bottles of Seafoam in the tank.

things I plan on checking/ replacing next
PCV and hose, (elbow)
checking the resistance on COPS
cleaning the TB
replacing the fuel filter.

Any input would be appreciated. I really dont want to blindly throw money at it.

Does it run good at full throttle?
How bad is the misfire? Terrible or just kinda noticeable?

maybe you should get the engine codes pulled. Just in case your dash light is not working.

Get the misfire counters read and see if it's really a misfire. If it's a single cylinder, it could be the COP going bad or an injector plug coming loose.

Seems to run great a full throttle and pretty rough at low rpms. There aren't any codes pulling up

Pull on 'em and see if they come off

The Android app Torque might be able to pull the misfire counters with an el-cheapo OBD-II Bluetooth adapter.

Does the problem start when it's still cold first thing or when it heats up? Does it have trouble starting and idling at first? If you haven't at least thrown a code reader on it you should give that a shot to see if there are any stored/pending DTC's. Fine at WOT and rough at partial sounds like possible vacuum leak or O2 sensor.

I bought one COP and kept switching is around. I cant remember if it was 3 or 4, but definitely right side. Then I did ALL boots and plugs (200k miles) and it completely went away.

I' glad you got it fixed.

But I have to be a little snarky.....

Why didn't you just try to find which plug or boot that was causing the issue and replace those?

I still say all new cops should have been done.
An extra $200 would have been good insurance.

I was replacing the spark plugs anyhow. SO I just did them all. The current ones had at least 120k miles that I drove ti without replacement, And the truck had 80k on it when I bought it. They may have been original.
