Coolant temps today.

Drove the truck for some errands today and drove about 120 miles round trip and my coolant temps got up to 213 at one point and the oil got up to 217 but they came down and hovered around ECT 207-208 with EOT averaging 211-213. Normally my temps level off around ECT 204-206 and drop back to around 200 with EOT never getting over 213, normally have deltas of 8-9 degrees. This was unloaded and outside temps hovering the 100 degree mark. Also mostly flat driving with a few small grades and a curve here and there with a speed limite of 75 with no stop and go traffic. I have posted in the past about my around 200ish coolant temps and was told that it wasnt really bad just higher than most and not to worry but today getting as high as it did should I start looking into a new thermostat or something else. The thermostat in the truck is about a year old but only has around 12k miles on it. The reason I changed it was I was running what I thought was a tad cool and I was working in that area on the truck at the time. I did keep the old thermo and I keep it behind the back seat. Thanks guys.

Fan Clutch would be my guess. But I'm new to 6.0. When the temps get to 207 on my truck, the fan kicks on really high. Sounded like a Jet Engine. I don't know if you can hear it when you're driving because mine only got that high when I was performing a coolant flush and it was idling at 1200rpms. When I'm driving in 96 degree temps in South Carolina, it's gotten up to 198-200... no more.

I was monitoring the fan speed and it got to around 1900 rmps at one point but would normally stay around 1200 for the average. It didnt seem to really ramp up until temps got over 208 and only then would it go over 1000. Mostly stays around 400-450 going down the highway til the temp gets over 207 on mine. I tried to put in the fan speed duty cycle but couldnt get it to work on my scanguage.

it was about 100 here today, and oil and coolant were both 195 or so,
trans was 175, but there were times intake air temp was 120, and
stop and go traffic and idling bumped it up to 130 at one point.

is your fan pulling in solidly? it should sound like a wind tunnel when
it does. my fan every once in a while will fully engage in stop and go
traffic, pulling in for 30 seconds or so at a time.

I couldnt really hear it today but according to the scanguage it was going. We had the radio and A/C on so that cuts down on noise. Ill re-enter the duty cycle codes and give it a good check this weekend.

I think the point is that while the PCM is requesting a higher fan speed, it may not be getting it. You need to listen to hear if the fan is ramping up and making that roar. You can check wires to the fan clutch for chafing, etc. and there's always a possibility of coolant restriction in radiator or airflow restriction -- make sure you take a good look at the cooling stack for external blockage. How many miles on your rig?

It really does seem most likely fan clutch. Oh yeah have you put the latest de-gas cap on? (they are cheap)

On edit: I just looked at your picture and see your A/M front bumper. Folks have had issues with some bumpers cutting airflow to the radiators -- got any other picts to share? like a good straight on one...

I bait a new degas cap at Orielly's, it was 6 bucks. They can even pressure test it for you to make sure it's good. No one likes buying broken "new" auto parts.

That is what my temps are when driving. My fan seems to be working as it should.

I put my old thermostat back in and it was still hitting my usual 200-206 highway. The other day was the first time it went over that.
