I'd love to do that but I've been told federal law prevents the sale of used catalytic converters. As far as buying new, cats are ridiculously expensive. I can probably get other parts for the exhaust at a junkyard though.
I only care about the CEL because if another issue crops up that triggers the light I may be unaware of it.
If that is your concern then consider buying an OBD2 dongle with an app on your smartphone to pull codes and monitor the system, that will let you know of any additional problems. Way cheaper than a cat if you don't require the cat to pass emissions.
TBH if it throws a code without any drivability problems then I'd be surprised, even minor misfires from failing COPs show up first in drivability rather than throwing a code.

Thank God I don't live in Allentown lol
I was told even at 95% efficiency it could throw a code because it's not operating at 100% but that's about the extent that I understand it. I had a misfire a while back before I replaced all my plugs but nothing since then.

95%? Maybe - but then yours is already throwing the efficiency code but I've no idea what level it gets triggered at. Some dongles show the readiness tests the ECU goes through at startup etc so it makes it really easy to keep any eye on. My COP misfire was so weak it only showed up in driving at low rpm in overdrive (approx 55mph here), under load - so a gentle uphill. But the other giveaway was the timing was jumping about when the data was viewed whilst driving...that indicated it was a misfire caused by ignition way before any code - it never did throw a code for it, I just swapped out all 6 COPs as the plugs were fine and issue resolved.
I've purchased a dongle for my vehicle and it will be here tomorrow, was surprised they don't really cost a lot but I'm pleased that I'm able to read my codes without paying for an expensive reader. Thanks for the advice, if something else comes up on the CEL I'll let you know.
