I have a California emissions 96 ford e-150 with a 4.9l I6 engine and am seeing the po420 'low cat efficiency on bank 1' error code. I have a single exhaust with an upstream cat and a downstream cat. There are 3 oxygen sensors, one upstream of all cats, one between the two cats, and one downstream of all cats.
Based on the po420 error code, I am considering replacing the cat. My question is which converter is the computer referring to when it says bank1? I have heard that the upstream converter is actually a 'precat', slightly different, and more costly.
Can anyone recommend an aftermarket brand of cat that is available in California?
