I have a 04 Excursion that has a abs intermittent light and the cruise control won't stay on. I think the two are related somehow. Maybe a sensor on a wheel that measures the speed?? It seems like the cruise will cut out when I hit a bump in the road. Not a big bump, just a crack in the pavement will cause it to shut off. If the abs light goes out the cruise will be erratic and cause the truck to jerk and speedo fluctuate till it shuts down the cruise control. Can anyone offer a probable cause for this? I really believe the two are closely related.
thanks huckster

A sensor on the wheel that measures the speed? that would be your "Wheel Speed Sensor" Which does in fact help regulate the ABS. Some vehicles cut the cruise control if there's a fault in the ABS, so it looks like the excursion is one of those vehicles.
I believe the vehicle speed sensor is in the rear differential and is necessary for both cruise and ABS. Because you also see the speedo fluctuate, which is driven by the ABS computer that gets vehicle speed from the... vehicle speed sensor, that's the 1st place I'd look.
UPDATE........ My mechanic has had the tester gadget on it and found the rear differential sensor is bad. New sensor and still cruise not working right and abs light still on and confused mechanic dude. Anyone have a clue where to look next? I'm trying to keep this fix as inexpensive as possible but I'm getting a little concerned. Need some help guys.
Great info. thanks. The recall switch is the first thing he looked at. He said I'm ok there. After driving it a little more he said the abs light went out and the cruise started working right. Maybe a reset period?? Anyway he cleared the codes and so far the problem is gone. I keep an eye on it. Thanks a ton guys.

Is it the rear sensor again? Might be boogered wiring.
