hey y’all,
On a 2009 F-150 lariat 4wd CCSB 5.4, a few days ago my brake caliper locked up sheering the pad off tearing up the rotor and melting the caliper. I purchased and installed 2 rotors, new pads 2 calipers. I installed and everything was great for about 3 days. Yesterday towing, my 21ft fiberglass boat to the ramp, I stopped at a stoplight and my passenger side brakes were smoking. I got to the ramp, let them cool, turned the bleeder to see pressure had within the caliper wasn’t bleeding off. It was all good, What should I do? What are your thoughts I thought the problem was solved but guess not.
Hi J,
Was this front or rear? From what you said I take it there was a lot of pressure and the fluid must have sprayed like crazy when you opened the bleeder. If so then for some reason the fluid is not being allowed to return to the master cylinder. Maybe something in the hose or lines, are the steel lines are beginning to rust through? Being as it is just on one side I would lean towards this or if it was front maybe something in the ABS module. If there wasn't a lot of pressure at the bleeder then it maybe where the caliper attaches to the brackets being rusted or dirty and not letting the caliper slide to release the pressure. Good luck and let us know what you found.
It is the front passenger brake, the bleeder does not have a lot of pressure, when it is opened. The caliper and caliper bracket are both 3 days old OEM. Thanks
