Heater Question

Hello all, I just finished repainting the heater box and replacing the blower motor on my truck (64 F100). When I bought it many parts were missing including the drive train.

So my question is how is the temperature controlled? The box has a lever to change from floor to defroster, and a lever that closes the plenum from the heater core area to the floor/defroster vents.

Thanks in advance...Pat

Besides the fan speed, there should be a valve inline on one of the hoses going to the heater. On some trucks it is cable controlled from the dash.
On mine they are manual.

The fresh air DeLuxe heater, an extra cost option, the coolant flow to the core was controllable from inside the cab.

Pretty dang decadent huh? There will be three levers on trucks so equipped - the 2 speed fan switch, also controls the floor or defrost vents by pulling out, then there are two more - Heat and Temp levers, that I can never remember which one does what. "Heat" draws outside air instead of simply recirculated air iirc. I will say with a 195° F thermostat the heat works really well considering there was no insulation to speak of in those days. Good heaters.

Thanks guys, mine does have the fan/heat-defrost lever in the dash and two more levers mounted to the bottom of the dash. After looking more closely at these two, one goes to the plenum I mentioned before and the other was not attached to anything just hanging below the dash. I'm thinking that may be the one to go to a valve to close off the antifreeze flow to the core.

Not the same parts, the 1961/64 deluxe fresh air heater is different than 1965/66.

You are correct. it goes through the firewall below the battery box and to the valve mounted on the right inner fender.
