T18 Question
Hey folks - novice mechanic looking for some help.
I have a 4 speed 1978 T18 Ford transmission I've pulled and am working on. I had to take it to a garage to get the yoke nut off - I had both gears locked into place when the mechanic took the nut off. Everything seemed ok.
I got it back home and I can shift the first gear into neutral, but I can't get the third gear into neutral.
There's a little play back and forth in the whole shaft - doesn't seem too big.
When I rotate the input or output shaft, there's a constant clunking noise and every now and then, the gears bind up and won't rotate. I can rotate the shaft back and forth and eventually keep rotating the gears.
Am I looking at a busted bearing? Whatever happened, it seemed to coincide with the mechanic taking the yoke nut off while both gears were locked in.
Thanks for your help!
