Quick timing chain tensioner question.
Im in the process of ordering a new timing set for my 03 navigator 32v. The majority of the timing sets that i have seen come with the plastic primary tensioners and the metal secondary ones. Id really like to have metal primary ones as well. I can order them seperately, but they only come with the tensioners themselves nothing else.
My question is....
Do i need to use the metal plates that go between the head and the tensioner if i use the iron tensioners? I have seen some engines with the little plates, and some without them. When i pulled the stock plastic tensioners off my engine yesterday, they didnt have the metal plates. The new kit that im looking to order comes with the metal plates, but plastic tensioners which i will subsiltitute for iron ones, im just not sure as to if i need to use the metal plates or not.
Thanks,
Andy
