Above headlight, Under Fender ??

I was taking apart my front end last night to install a new grill (mine never had one). As I took them apart, I noticed that one side was different than the other. Is there a reason? it almost looks factory. I hope these pics explain better than I do.

The 48-50 trucks had an option for a fresh air heater. The air intake was above the PS headlight and a duct ran inside the fender to the cowl. The fan motor was mounted in the fender well near the cowl. No, it wasn't a better idea and tended to rust - especially the motor housing. A peek under the fender would show:

48-50 models have the notorious design with the heater in the wheel well. The "Catch 22" is that since heaters were an option trucks in the north where they use salt on the roads and where heaters were ordered on the trucks they don't have much left of the heater assemblies. And areas in the southwest where they don't have to salt the roads it is usually warm so heaters were never ordered on the truck.

This one is pretty bad but recently "firstrider" posted some pictures of one almost as bad that he did a beautiful job of restoring. New blower motors are available.

Certainly, these were the deluxe heaters as they also used the water control valve #18502, as shown in Pete's diagram.
