I have a 76 f100 4x4 with a 4 inch sky jacker on it. Not my idea I just bought it like that. Needs new shocks. Eyeholes in the front and bayonet and eyehole in the rear. I was hoping I could find some bilstiens for it but I don't know how to find them. Or if they even exist. I don't know how much travel I have to include in my shocks. I don't plan on doing any really four wheeling but I know you don't want the shocks always fully extended or bottomed out. Any help?
Most shock manufacturers have shocks listed by application like 1976 F250 +4” lift, or extended and compressed lengths and mounting style. You might have to cycle suspension and measure. Or measure ride height and add and subtract a couple inches for lengths.
As far as type of shock, read closely where they are made from (what country). SkyJacker, Pro Comp, Superlift, Rancho, and Rough Country hydro and nitro shocks are all made in Mexico in the Monroe plant. Here's a little known fact, there is only ONE shock manufacturer in Mexico, Monroe. Notice why they are all painted white and are the exact same size. the only difference is the sticker and the rubber boot. So they are all the same, no matter what you read on their advertisement or what anybody says. Now there is a difference in the ride quality between hydro and nitro shocks. That will require more research on your side because most people have different opinions and it does matter how you will be using the truck.
