A buddy told me to put small tires on the front of the truck. So it points downhill. It makes it want to roll forward on its own and saves fuel on the freeways.
Is it true?
Skinny tires help fuel economy by lowering the rolling resistance.Shorter tires, though they may lower the gear ratio, they also lower the truck, which means less air turbulence goes under where it's worse aerodynamically.
I wouldn't be surprised if your buddy did see an mpg increase by putting on smaller tires, even if just up front, especially on a truck, for these reasons.Putting shorter tires on the front so the truck points downhill, doesn't mean the vehicle is constantly under a gravitational pull however lol.
This is general automotive though and probably should of been put over there, rather than here in NON auto.

That's a great theory, genius really. I'll give it a try. Just put the fat and shinnies on. I'll be sure to update with the much improved results.
Well, I put the big tires on the rear. Jacked it up 2.5" in back. My driveway has a bit of uphill pitch and when I parked it and forgot the ebrake the thing would roll backwards. Now the truck is level in the driveway but still rolls back. Guess I'll try more air in the rear tires.
I will post up highway mileage as soon as I run a couple of tankfuls through it.
Do the tires affect odometer and speedometer? Seems like everybody is flying by when I do 65 now.
My buddy said that is the reason why dragsters go so fast. Big tires on the rear, bicycle wheels on front.
He said he had a top fuel dragster. When he let off the brake at the starting line it would role to a 11-second 125-mph run- with the engine off.
