Get a line loc so you aren't clamping the rear brakes when you get going (on my chevy truck, the rpm will hold at 4k when burning the tires, but if I let off the brakes the needle just jumps to 6000), other than that, get enough power so it'll shift into 2nd.
Hey there COBRAjrb and welcome to FTE!
Captain FORD is right about the line-lock. Do you want smoke, or do you want s-m-o-k-e....?
You need some cheapo Pep-Boys or some cheapo used tires fro a neighbors tree. Just barely enough tread to pass inspection. A bottle of dish detergent, with just bleach in the bottle. Do a small burn, for about 10 to 15 seconds. Bleach the tires and sit back and enjoy the smoke!! HEE HEE!
Talk with you guys later....
no no no, this is what you do if your trying to impress somebody with a cool burnout. First go buy some bleach, thats the easy part. Then get a electric pump, something small like a mini fuel pump for filling up remote control boats cars planes etc. can be had at a local hobby shop for under 30 bucks. then , now this is the painfull part, route yourself some good silcone tubing from somewhere you can mount the pump and a can or jug or whatever to keep the bleach in. make sure it is in a vented area. then run yourself a switch from inside your cab, hook to pump and when you first start spinning the wheels hit the switch for a couple seconds. If you mount the end of the tubing in a good spot , no one will see the bleach sprayed on the tires, and you will just enjoy a good thick white smoke. My friends still ask me how i get such a thinck dense smoke out of street tires lol
Hey there Opiewan! I was going to mention that. I used a windsheild washer tank, with integral pump with the nylon hoses for ice machines. The nylon won't collapse as easy. I did have to use a couple of short pieces coming off the pump, but I kept the set-up in a baking pan in my trunk and checked for leakes when I had to refill with bleach! Way cool smoke!!
I found also that if I could clean up around the wheel wells, soon after, glass cleaner worked great at removing the rubber and tar. Plus, it doesn't remove the wax.
Talk with you nuts later.....HEE HEE!
I am ashamed to do any kind of burnouts in my one wheel wonder. Mostly because I have a lot of lifter noise and its bugging the hell out of me.
I would go to a junk yard or a small time mechanic shop and pick up some el-cheapo tires though. There is no sense in burning through perfectly good tires.
hold the barkes as hard as you can and mash the gas.... if nothing happens, either your brakes are really good, or you don't have enough power. the next thing you can try in either case is floor the gas and turn hard right, that should break them loose pretty good. have fun, but be safe about it, make sure no one is around and no other cars. think before you act. trust me on that one.
Wait. Don't do that with the NP. You should not be peeling out. You don't want to be replacing the Xfer case. Remember that 4x4 thing. It doesn't mean you can go over rougher terrain, it just means everything is now 4x harder and 4x more expensive to fix.
Squealing those cheap tires off is ok. Maybe you should wait til subway pays you enough to replace them with Pirelli Scorpion A/T's.
Texan, that 400 has a lot of power, I've been in it. Thats the best motor Ford ever put in an F150.
Yeah, you have an NP205. Remember what that front U-Joint costs? I do, $110. You might as well let these guys wreck their trucks then you can buy 'em for parts.
why is having a 205 and doing burnouts bad? just do it in two wheel drive. if you have a 203 still set up for full time 4x4 i could understand that. what am i missing?
Hey guys! You may want to start out power braking in a parking lot, just after it starts raining. You don't have to be there very long, just long enough to see what it'll take to get them spinning in the wet. When you get over to dry, you'll have to work it twice as hard. Don't let your speedo get above 55-60 mph, and/or keep your rpms below 5k, once you get spinning. You'll get the hang of it in no time and then you'll adjust your pedals and rpms for the type of smoke you want. HEE HEE!
Back in my day, we used to do a rolling burn! Lonely parking lot or back road. Get the middle of the vehicle in line with the road stripes. Put it in Reverse, back up about 10 feet, slam it down to first, gun the pedal, and put down about 100 to 200 feet of rubber! After a couple of weeks, we'd need to change the tranny, but it was fun!
